Each stage is designed around the distinctive landscapes and changes in altitude along this route, from the approach trail to the summit region or scenic turnaround point.
Route experience
For the daily programme, follow the sequence shown below. Descriptions explain what to expect each day, including the type of terrain, opportunities for gradual acclimatization and the likely demands of longer walking stages. Exact start times are set by the guide around weather, group readiness and local regulations.
What makes this Mount Kenya itinerary distinctive?
Mount Kenya routes cross forest, moorland and exposed alpine terrain. The best preparation includes day hikes with elevation gain, footwear already used on long walks and layered clothing for cold or wet conditions. Point Lenana is a nontechnical trekking objective, while Batian and Nelion are separate technical mountaineering ascents.
Route and itinerary notes
Sirimon approaches Mount Kenya through the northern moorlands and Mackinder Valley. The daily route stages are described individually in the itinerary below.
