Ngulia Safari Lodge
Built-in 1969, Ngulia Safari Lodge is located in Tsavo West National Park, home to a big host of wild animals. Visitors can access the Lodge accessed from Nairobi (260 km away), through Mtito Andei Gate, or from Mombasa (250 km away) through Tsavo River Gate. The Lodge is perched on the Ndawe Escarpments just below Ngulia Hills, overlooking THE RHINO SANCTUARY surrounded by Scenic Hills.

Mzima Springs
Ngulia Safari Lodge offers one of Kenya’s most breathtaking views. Guests join guided expeditions to Mzima Springs, a living oasis teeming with fish, crocodiles, and hippos. Every day, millions of liters of crystal-clear water flow from underground streams in the nearby Chyulu Hills, keeping the springs fresh.
In Swahili, “Mzima” means “Life.” The area thrives with wildlife, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and giraffes roaming the banks among thick acacias and raffia palms. Monkeys and birds also populate the surroundings, creating a rich ecosystem. Mzima Springs supplies Mombasa with fresh water. Well-marked nature trails and an observation platform provide excellent viewing spots. A guided walk with a ranger allows visitors to explore Mzima up close, making it an unforgettable experience.

Shetani Lava Flow
Another fascinating sight is the Shetani Lava Flow, a name that means “devil” in English. Over 500 years ago, locals witnessed fire erupting and flowing across the land, convincing them that the devil had emerged from the earth. This stunning black lava flow stretches 8 km long, 1.6 km wide, and reaches a depth of 5 meters, creating a breathtaking landscape.
Tsavo also boasts the Five Sister Hills, a striking natural formation. These identical, cone-shaped hills stand together in one area, resembling each other perfectly. Their unique symmetry and scenic beauty make them a must-see attraction within the park.
The Rhino Sanctuary
Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary operates through a private-public partnership dedicated to rhino conservation. The sanctuary focuses on protecting rhinos while advancing technology to help rangers monitor them more effectively. So far, 20 black rhinos have been released from the sanctuary into the lodge’s Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) neighborhood. Due to these conservation efforts, rhino births have increased, contributing to population growth. Enhanced security measures ensure the safety of these endangered animals within the park, strengthening the sanctuary’s role in wildlife protection.
