The Ultimate Laikipia Safari

The Ultimate Laikipia Adventure will take make you exploring the diverse Laikipia county. Laikipia County, which means treeless plain in the Maasai language is one of the 14 counties within the Rift Valley region and one of the 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. It is a cosmopolitan county with two major urban centres: Nanyuki to the southeast and Nyahururu to the southwest. Its capital is Rumuruti.

Laikipia County

Laikipia County is experiencing an increase in demand for holiday homes. To meet this demand, multi-billion facilities are coming up to cater for the services. Such establishments include Maiyan Homes, Loisaba Bush Camp, and Governors Camp Hotel.

The number of hotels in Laikipia County has tripled in the last three years, from 36 in 2017 to a total of 103 by the end of 2019, according to Laikipia County Statistical Abstract 2020. It also states that the arrival of tourists at Thomson falls, Nyahururu jumped from 118,915 to 188,909 during the same period.

It also states that the number of accommodation and food services activities increased by 2334 in 2019 from 871 in 2018.
This has ensured that the county no longer acts as a transit route for tourists. It has become one of the most sought-after safari destinations.

Laikipia offers an unmatched number of wildlife sanctuaries that make the Laikipia plateau just magical. The number of wildlife sanctuaries contributes to the increased demand for the region. The Ultimate Laikipia Adventure will enable you to see animal species such as the Black Rhino, Grevy’s Zebra, and Reticulated Giraffe.

It prides itself on its expansive view from snowcapped Mt. Kenya to the spectacular views of the Great Rift Valley with its magnificent escarpment.

This has promoted the county as a leisure destination, leading to visitors.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Departure from Nairobi to Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy

The Mt. Kenya Wildlife Conservancy seeks to prevent the extinction of endangered species such as the Mountain Bongo by breeding them with the aim of returning them to their natural habitat. It is nestled at the foot of the Mount Kenya forest ecosystem, a world heritage site (by UNESCO).

Day 2, 3, 4, & 5 - Climbing Mt Kenya

Join us for guided climbs of the trekking peak point Lenana on Mount Kenya using a variety of routes. Expect a lot of wildlife, secluded trails with bizarre flora and fauna, and the classic snow-covered technical peaks of Batian and Nelion as the perfect backdrop. Our guides are well trained with extensive experience on all routes, and they have international first aid certificates. We provide the equipment for camping and cooking, plus the porters who will carry a rucksack of up to 15 kgs if need be.
Mt. Kenya rises to a peak of 5,199 meters above sea level. The mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mt. Kenya is an extinct volcano (3.1-2.6 million years ago). It is thought that before the eruption, Mt. Kenya was around 6,500 meters above sea level when it rose to full height. Mt. Kenya has about 20 glacial tarns (small montane lakes) of varying sizes, but the glaciers on the mountain are receding gradually. The top peaks of Mt. Kenya include Batian (5,199 meters above sea level), Nelion (5,188 meters above sea level), and Lenana (4,985 meters above sea level).

On our Mt. Kenya National Park Tour, we shall enjoy crossing various habitats:- tropical rainforest, a bamboo zone, agenda forest, heather forest, and moorland vegetation. We shall enjoy splendid landscape views as we move up the mountain; and will also enjoy the local Giant Lobelia flowers.

Day 6 - IL Ngwesi Conservancy

The Maasai people of Laikipia developed the conservancy in collaboration with the Lewa and Borana conservancies. The Maasai people gave away parts of their land to provide wildlife with protected grounds. As are most of Laikipia County’s lowlands, Il ’Ngwesi is largely semi-arid savanna grasslands mixed with shrublands and acacia woodlands, all of which combine to create ecological landscapes suitable for pastoralism and livestock rearing but also ideal habitats for wildlife.

The Il Ngwesi Group Ranch has on some awards over the years, for example, the National Geographic 21 Places to stay if you cared about the Planet in 2017, and it was also featured in the Publication Authentic Eco Lodges (2010).

Ecotourism is the main form of the many practised in Il Ngwesi Group Ranch.

Day 7 - Ngare Ndare Forest

Exploring the wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit. Come out hiking, swimming in the natural blues, game viewing, and canopy walks exclusively in Ngare Ndare Forest. Ngare Ndare forest is a lush indigenous forest at the northern foothills of Mt. Kenya. Azure pools glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200 years old trees stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life. The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Northern Kenya to Mount Kenya forest reserve, and one which elephants have been using for centuries.

Day 8 & 9 - Olpajeta Conservancy

The Olpajeta Conservancy is a 364sq km wildlife conservancy situated between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdares. The Olpajeta’s game-to-area ratio tops the Kenyan park and reserve league. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya has over 10000 large mammals. In Kenya, the Olpajeta Conservancy is the only park where tourists will see the big five and chimpanzees. It is also where the fastest-growing population of rhinos in Africa can be found. There are southern white rhinos and about 80 endangered black rhinos in a unique sanctuary. The Olpajeta has two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. The two remaining Nothern white rhinos are Najin and Fatu.

The Olpajeta Trip will expose you to the beautiful features of the Olpajeta, including the two remaining white rhinos. You will get to meet and, if given a chance, feed the two remaining white rhinos, Najin and Fatu. Najin and Fatu are the hope for saving the northern white rhino populations. Besides, you will enjoy a unique opportunity to view chimpanzees behind the scenes and learn more about the day-to-day care of the chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are indigenous to Kenya and Sweetwaters. Chimpanzee Sanctuary is the only place to see them in Kenya. Get exclusive access and see the chimpanzees during their feeding time and as they engage in enrichment activities within their enclosures.

Day 10 - Departure to Nairobi

We shall facilitate your return to Nairobi via the Nanyuki Airstrip and later departure via JKIA
