Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and most iconic national park. Located in the country’s northwest, this vast reserve spans over 3,840 square kilometers and offers one of the most diverse safari experiences in East Africa. At the heart of the park lies its most breathtaking feature—Murchison Falls. Here, the mighty River Nile is forced through a narrow 7-meter gorge, plunging 43 meters into the Devil’s Cauldron below. This dramatic cascade, often called the world’s most powerful waterfall, creates a thunderous spectacle and misty rainbow views that are unforgettable.

Wildlife and Bird Watching

Murchison Falls National Park is home to over 76 mammal species. Expect thrilling sightings of African elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, antelopes, and hyenas. Along the Nile River, large pods of hippos and Nile crocodiles bask on the banks, providing spectacular photo opportunities. Birdwatchers are in for a treat, with over 450 bird species recorded in the park. Highlights include the rare and prehistoric-looking shoebill stork, goliath heron, African fish eagle, and vibrant carmine bee-eaters nesting on the cliffs.
