Northwestern Rwanda is home to Volcanoes National Park. It includes five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains—Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo—and 160 km2 (62 sq mi) of the rainforest. It shares a boundary with Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mountain gorilla and the golden monkey call it home, and primatologist Dian Fossey used it as her home base.
